Second cyber security institute launched in the UK

Teams from six universities will make up the UK’s second cyber security research institute. The academic research institute, which will be hosted by Imperial College London, will investigate new ways of reducing computer software’s vulnerability to cyber threats.

ISSE 2013: Call for Papers submissions accepted until April 30th

Returning to Brussels in 22nd and 23rd October, ISSE provides the ideal platform for the dissemination, qualification and discussion of the key European Commission security objetives and policy directions. The call for papers deadline is set on 30th April.
Fake industrial control systems set up test the vulnerability of internet connected critical national infrastructure came under sustained attack, with the majority of attacks originating in China, followed by the US. These attacks were not automated 'drive-by' attacks targeting any internet-connected system, such as SQL injection, but were rather specific attempts to compromise internet-facing ICS/Scada systems.
This year the Infosecurity Europe takes place in London, between the 23rd and 25th April. Infosecurity Europe is Europe’s number one Information Security event, featuring over 350 exhibitors, the most diverse range of new products and services, an unrivalled education programme and over 12,400 unique visitors from every segment of the industry.
The ENISA Management Board meeting took place last week in Heraklion. Among the agenda points is the Agency's Strategy, amending Work Programme 2013, and the draft Work Programme 2014, as well as the General Report for 2012.
CloudCERT at the Young Researchers Innovation Week

CloudCERT will be presentet at the YRIK (Young Researchers Innovation Week). There will be explained it's main objetives and functionalities, and a demo of the first beta semi-functional version will be shown.
The YRIK (Young Researchers Innovation Week), is a training week event organised in Brussels the 25-29 of March 2013, by REDINN (Rete europea dell’innovazione), with the collaboration of UNDP (United Nations Development Programme) and the European Union FP7 (Seventh Framework Programme), MoICT, CloudCERT and SCADA LAB European Projects. The main objectives are to learn the process of innovation policy implementation initiatives, discuss the principles and best practices seeking to design and implement new policy and to manage and drive worked out.
Critical Infrastructure Protection against Cyber Threats

This article begins by deﬁning the subject of critical infrastructures, and discusses the origins, uniqueness, and innovativeness of the threat to them. It then discusses levels of coping with the threat, using conceptual parallels to the world of military content. The existing Israeli response will be reviewed brieﬂy, with an emphasis on the central challenges the cyber threat poses to public policy. Finally, directions for future research and action will be presented.
